Our rider choice

Guido Franchi, born in 1998, is one of the rising talents in Italian show jumping. Born and raised in Siena—a city famous for the Palio and its centuries-old equestrian tradition—Guido developed a passion for horses from an early age. Growing up in the family stables in Casabassa di Monteroni d’Arbia, under the guidance of his father Andrea—himself a show jumping rider and victorious Captain of the Contrada Sovrana dell’Istrice—Guido began shaping his promising career at just eight years old.

His track record is remarkable for such a young rider: three Italian Championship titles (Children’s Champion in 2012 and Junior Champion in 2013 and 2016), a European team silver medal at the Millstreet Championships in 2016, and an individual eighth-place finish in the same competition.

Arezzo, with its renowned Equestrian Centre, serves as his "second home," where he has built many of his successes and trained the horses that have accompanied him in the most significant moments of his career. Among them, Windrose stands out—the mare with whom he won the Italian Junior Championships and competed in the CSIO of Piazza di Siena—along with Lucaine, the horse he hopes to shine with in upcoming international events.

"Every jump is a challenge, every horse a teacher. It is through daily hard work that I build my successes, carrying with me the pride of my homeland and the passion for this sport."

Guido Franchi

Despite his extensive competition experience, Guido maintains a deep, visceral connection to his homeland: "The day of the Palio is the most emotional and intense, even more than any final." This Sienese spirit, fueled by passion and adrenaline, is the driving force behind his career, making him a true ambassador of Italian tradition and talent on the global stage.
